Getting to Tunisia from the US and Canada
No airline flies nonstop from the United States to Tunisia. The only North American nonstop is Tunisair from Montreal to Tunis, three flights a week in October 2026. From the US you connect in Europe or Istanbul. Americans and Canadians need no visa for 90 days, and both governments want a passport valid six months beyond departure.

From the United States: no nonstop
We found no nonstop flight from the United States to Tunisia. Tunisair's own destination menu lists Montreal as its only North American destination. FlightsFrom's page for Tunis says the two longest flights from Tunis are to Montreal, 8 hours 55 minutes, and Abu Dhabi, 5 hours 45 minutes. Wikipedia's table for Tunis-Carthage airport also lists Montreal as the only North American destination.
That is verified by absence. No airline states that none exists, so if you read of a new route, believe the airline's own schedule over this page.

One stop from the US east coast
Every route from the United States connects. This table gives the hubs that fly both legs: a US east coast nonstop to the hub, then a flight on to Tunis. It is a snapshot of FlightsFrom's route pages on 9 October 2026, for example New York to Paris and Paris to Tunis. Frequencies are as the site shows them, and "3 to 4 daily" means it gives a range. Air France's and Turkish Airlines' own sites could not be opened, so confirm every flight on the airline before you book. We checked the east coast gateways and not the west coast.
| Hub | Nonstops from the US east coast | Hub to Tunis |

Which Tunisian airport
Our programmes begin in Tunis. Day 1 on every one of them is your arrival in Tunis (our journey pages), where your guide meets you at the airport and takes you to your hotel, and the last day is the transfer to the airport for your flight home. The Wonders of Tunisia also has a late afternoon flight from Djerba to Tunis on its last full day.

|---|---|
| Tunis-Carthage (TUN) | 63 destinations, 29 airlines |
| Djerba-Zarzis (DJE) | 30 destinations, 15 airlines. Main route Paris Orly, Transavia 3 to 5 daily. Tunis, Tunisair Express 3 daily |
| Enfidha-Hammamet (NBE) | 20 destinations, 5 airlines, easyJet the largest. No domestic flights |

The destination counts and routes are from FlightsFrom's airport pages, for example Tunis, on 9 October 2026. The airports are run by OACA, the Tunisian airports authority, for Tunis, Djerba, Tozeur and Sfax, and by TAV Tunisie for Enfidha and Monastir.
Visa, passport and entry for Americans and Canadians
| Item | US citizens | Canadian citizens |
|---|---|---|
| Visa | "For U.S. passport holders, a visa is not necessary for stays up to 90 days." | Tourist visa not required for stays up to 90 days |
| Passport validity | Six months | "Valid for at least 6 months beyond the date you expect to leave Tunisia" |

| Longer stays | A residence permit, from the central police station of the district of residence | Contact the nearest Tunisian embassy or consulate before departure |
| Dual nationals | US and Tunisian dual citizens are expected to enter and exit on Tunisian passports | Tunisian authorities may ask Canadian Tunisians to show a Tunisian passport on entry and exit |
| Vaccination required | None | Yellow fever proof not required to enter |
| Entry fee | None listed | None listed |
From the State Department's country page (archived 30 May 2026) and the Government of Canada's travel advice for Tunisia. We found no official Tunisian statement of the visa and passport rules.
The governments disagree about the passport. The US and Canada say six months. The UK says it should be valid for the duration of your stay (UK Foreign Office). Plan to the stricter rule, because airlines may enforce their own. The State Department's page also says "up to 90 days" in its text and "under 90 days" in its quick facts line, which is one more reason not to plan to the last day.
Cash, questions at the border and devices
- Declare cash above 10,000 Tunisian dinars, about $3,000 according to the State Department's page, on entry. Importing Tunisian currency is prohibited. You may export up to 5,000 dinars only if you declared it on arrival, and up to 3,000 may be re-exchanged with the original receipt. The page says currency above the limits is often confiscated (State Department).
- The official exchange rate averaged 2.997 dinars to the US dollar in 2025 (World Bank).
- Officials may ask for contact details, onward or return tickets and proof of accommodation, and a small number of visitors have been delayed or refused for lacking evidence of accommodation (UK Foreign Office).
- Drones need prior authorisation, and some recording and smart devices may be restricted. The details are in Is Tunisia safe for Americans?.
Health before you go
The State Department lists no required vaccination, and the CDC says the yellow fever vaccine is not required and not recommended. The CDC recommends keeping routine vaccines up to date, and hepatitis A, typhoid and, for some travellers, hepatitis B (CDC). The safety guide lists what it says. Ask a doctor or a travel clinic about your own case.
The time difference
Tunisia is on UTC+1 all year, with no daylight saving (timeanddate). That is six hours ahead of New York in winter and five hours ahead in summer, as US clocks change. We plan on United States hours, and we reply within one business day, US Eastern time.
What we could not verify
- The Montreal to Tunis schedule for winter 2026 to 2027, and any announced future route between the US and Tunisia.
- The one stop frequencies on the airlines' own sites. They are an aggregator's snapshot, and Air France's and Turkish Airlines' sites could not be opened.
- Tunisia's own statement of the visa and passport rules. We found no official Tunisian page, so the rules above are the US, Canadian and UK governments' accounts of them.
- Any Tunisia specific entry measure tied to the Ebola outbreak. Canada's page opens its entry section by saying some countries have imposed measures, and does not say Tunisia has.
Questions and answers
- Is there a direct flight from the US to Tunisia?
- We found none. Tunisair's destination menu lists Montreal as its only North American destination, and the schedule listings we checked show no US nonstop. That is verified by absence, because no airline states that none exists.
- Is there a direct flight from Canada to Tunisia?
- Yes, from Montreal. Tunisair flies TU203 to Tunis and TU202 back, three a week on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday in October 2026, about 8 hours 15 minutes outbound on an Airbus A330-200. We could not verify the winter 2026 to 2027 schedule.
- Do Americans need a visa for Tunisia?
- No, for stays of up to 90 days. The State Department says a visa is not necessary for US passport holders for stays up to 90 days, and the Government of Canada says Canadians need no tourist visa for up to 90 days. Neither government page lists an entry fee.
- How long must my passport be valid for Tunisia?
- The US and Canadian governments both say six months: Canada's page says at least six months beyond the date you expect to leave. The UK says valid for the duration of your stay. Plan to the stricter rule, because airlines may enforce their own.
- Which airport do I fly into for a private tour of Tunisia?
- Day 1 of every one of our programmes is the arrival in Tunis, where your guide meets you at the airport. Tunis-Carthage is Tunis's airport, and of the six Tunisian airports we checked it has the most destinations: 63, with 29 airlines, on a 9 October 2026 schedule snapshot.
- How much cash can I bring into Tunisia?
- The State Department says to declare cash above 10,000 Tunisian dinars, about $3,000, on entry. Importing Tunisian currency is prohibited. You may export up to 5,000 dinars only if you declared it on arrival, and up to 3,000 may be re-exchanged with the original receipt. It says currency above the limits is often confiscated.
- What is the time difference between Tunisia and the US?
- Tunisia is on UTC+1 all year, with no daylight saving. That makes it six hours ahead of New York in winter and five hours ahead in summer, as US clocks change.
